Monday
I had planned to go
to the studio but somehow the momentous news events took over. First Leadsom
stood down from the Tory leadership contest, at much the same time Eagle was
holding a press conference to announce her bid to be Labour party leader. Almost immediately Theresa May was pronounced
the new Tory Leader/ PM and there were calls for an election.
Meanwhile framing
and wrapping my two pieces of work for the Rogue Exhibition at Waterside
Tuesday
Pilates very good but hard too
To studio , van
outside, handed in my two pictures, met Margaret Cahill and Darren ? then began new Beside the Sea piece. Wanted to combine more painterly pieces with
printed paintings, but uncertain whether it works. I like the small boy figure best. Begin to
think about books and decided to try creating a concertina out of penguin book
pages – why have I not though of this before?
I keep thinking of
Stella's work at the book fair and how I would like to make something similar.
I think rather than them being concertina I would like to explore
stitched pamphlet style books. This
would give me the opportunity to work on both sides. Need to think about which books, size, covers etc
Wednesday
Studio in afternoon
began working on pamphlet type books using book Chris T had given me. I made an acetate stencil of the drill and then printed and painted with it.
Thursday
To studio earlier
worked on lino cuts and collagraphs and printed onto pages.
Met up with book group at Home - a great meeting, very productive- we will work towards the MIF next year - and consider stories connected to Manchester either historical, personal or mythology. I spoke to Amanda about whether I should apply for a PhD and she said I would have to do a MA first- which has left me in a quandary - as I'm not sure what to do.
In the taxi home the driver told me about huge numbers of people being run over by a lorry driver in Nice in France as they were celebrating Bastille day. I don't often take cabs, but had an lively conversation about the political situation and the shock of the Brexit vote and why there are so many terrorist attacks in France.
